Bio

Eric Delaporte is a veteran of the United States Army, where he served with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, 25th Infantry Division, and the 10th Mountain Division.  After leaving the military, Eric managed teamsters in Chicago and New York where he gained practical experience overseeing the day-to-day operations of unionized employees.  Eric then taught nuclear security during the pre and post-9/11 era before venturing to law school.

Mr. Delaporte attended the University of Notre Dame Law School where he served as the Notes Editor for the Journal of College and University Law, a law journal devoted to legal issues in education.  Mr. Delaporte also served as a member of the national moot court team, and as a devoted fan of the Fighting Irish.

When he is not serving the law and his clients, Mr. Delaporte can be found chasing, or being chased, by his two little boys, landscaping his yard, playing with a dog he swears is NMD (Not My Dog), and cheering on his beloved Fighting Irish.

Law

After spending over a decade with a large Michigan educational law firm, Mr. Delaporte decided to take the plunge and open his own law practice.  Mr. Delaporte brings significant public labor and employment experience to the practice of law, including extensive experience in contract negotiations, employee misconduct issues, and general school law.  He has appeared before various State and Federal courts, the Michigan Employment Relations Commission, State Tenure Commission, and in diverse arbitration proceedings. Mr. Delaporte has litigated issues of first impression in federal court, before the Teachers’ Tenure Commission, and the Michigan Employment Relations Commission.  Eric is experienced in misconduct investigations, including those featuring the use of scientific and computer forensics.

Mr. Delaporte is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, American Bar Association, and is the labor representative on the State and Local Government Bargaining and Employment Law Committee – Subcommittee on Ethics.  He has testified before the legislature in support of amendments to the Teachers’ Tenure Act.
